Art: George Catlin's Indian Gallery

George Catlin's paintings are the focus of this virtual exhibit produced by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. In the 1830s and 40s, Catlin traversed the West documenting the fate of Native Americans, particularly those dislocated by the Indian Removal Act. Thirty-two paintings are featured, including several of prominent Mandan chiefs and a striking portrait of explorer William Clark. <>
